Dresden in Germany is a city known for it’s culture and beautiful architecture but not usually a place you associate with authentic 1950‘s Rhythm & Blues, more specifically, perfectly formed female led Rhythm & Blues. The BlueBelles are about to change all that. A seven piece all gal German band playing American Rhythm & Blues and brought to life by lead singer Valeska Kunath armed with only a dream and a fierce passion for the music and its female singers like Ruth Brown, Varetta Dillard and Lavern Baker. After two long years of searching for exactly the right musicians, the line up now in place consists of lead and backing vocals, piano, bass, drums, guitar and saxes. Stop for a moment and consider: an all girl band playing R&B. Probably one of the only bands like this anywhere in the world today and stretching back to an historical tradition rooted in the all girl acts of Vaudeville and the Jazz and Swing age. This modern day Sweethearts of Rhythm (and Blues) play exciting and up beat versions of songs we love from the the golden era of Rock & Roll and Rhythm and Blues and it doesn’t hurt one bit that they‘re as easy on the eye as they are on the ear!
